Wow – we are present on the web and thank all that contributed to making this possible! In particular, to Maja Radosavljevic for the powerful EL*C video that she prepared, start to finish. Let’s take a look at the video https://youtu.be/HFrsab-2Nbw and images thanks to Andrea Klem. Soon we will start to published our first EL*C social media campaign.

1.    Registration is now open for the 2017 EL*C Conference in Vienna

Registration is now open for the 1st European Lesbian* Conference: “Lesbians in Europe: Connect, Reflect, Act, Transform!”, which will take place at the Donauhof in Vienna between 6-8 October 2017. In most European countries, lesbians* have been at the forefront of social and political changes. Nevertheless, the energy, creativity, research and activist skills developed by lesbians* during the last 20 years lack visibility and recognition. This is a consequence of specific cultural mechanisms that have erased female sexuality throughout societies, and which resulted in our voices and stories not being loud enough, and our history not being properly recognized. To counter this state of affairs, the European Lesbian* Conference will take place in Vienna on October 6-8, 2017, which is the International Lesbian Day. The goal of the EL*C conference is to create an academic/’activistic’/artistic and literary space, where lesbians* will be able to express themselves without fear of being ignored or discriminated against. The conference will also serve as a skills-and-knowledge-sharing platform for its diverse representation of attendees.

The organizers aim to create a conference that includes a wide diversity of lesbians*; Anyone who considers themselves to have a connection to the word ‘lesbian*’ is invited to come and join us in our dialogues. See below for Conference attendance funding request opportunities.

You can register for EL*C’s 1st conference, here: EVENTBRITE REGISTRATION

EL*C is proud to announce its official registration as an NGO:

Since March 3rd 2017, the European Lesbian* Conference is officially registered as an NGO, under Austrian law. On behalf of the cohort of activists supporting the initiative were Mariella Müller and Michaela Tulipan signing as co-founders. The registration symbolizes an important concrete step for the EL*C since Europe-based lesbian activists decided, in October 2016, to create an association dedicated to strengthening and shedding light on the lesbian movement in the region.

About the term European? The organisers want to provide space for promoting a variety of lesbian* auto-identifications throughout Europe and beyond. At the same time we recognise that ‘Europe’ is a contingent category itself. Our invitation is open to all those who find the term ‘European’ a comfortable fit and especially to those who find the term ‘European’ problematic in the times and spaces in which they live or originate from.

Overwhelming presence at the European Lesbian* Conference’s first organizing team meeting – Vienna, Austria

European Lesbian* Conference – Friday, February 10, 2017

Following the founding of the EL*C in Vienna, Austria, on February 2nd 2017, a group of enthusiastic and devoted lesbians of all ages and backgrounds met at Rosa Lila Villa to plan the organization of EL*C’s first edition, due in 6-8 October, 2017.

The meeting took place at the Rosa Lila Villa – Vienna’s first LGBTIQ* space – with the intention to work with local grassroots movements and activists from the start.

A group of 35+ diverse women* from all ages, backgrounds, representing other organizations or willing to support the EL*C on an individual capacity expressed their enthusiasm to contribute to the organization of EL*C’s first conference. “Because of the overwhelming presence and support at our first organizing team meeting, it became obvious to me, how much we are on the right track with this initiative. There seems to be a big need to address the specific needs of women* who identify as lesbians,” noted Mariella Müller, EL*C’s co-founder.

Following a participatory process, and after the presentation of the initiative and its rationale – the meeting attendees got the chance to share and express their ideas and wishes for the conference’s content and program, and also to inform the conference organizers on their skills and talents. Conference sponsoring and logistics were also discussed.
