Guide for the Work of Persons of Trust – What Helpers in the LGBTIQ+ Community Need to Know – Report
This guide, developed by the CURE Foundation (Sarajevo) as part of a project funded by ELC and the European Union, is aimed at “persons of trust” — community helpers supporting LGBTIQ+ people affected by gender-based violence in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It opens with context on the violence, discrimination and institutional silence LGBTIQ+ people face in the country, then provides practical guidance for helpers*: core communication and ethical skills, the do-no-harm principle, boundary-setting, and how to listen and respond without acting as a therapist. A dedicated legal literacy section covers international human rights standards and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s domestic legal framework on hate speech, hate crimes, domestic violence and victims’ rights. The guide is the final output of a training process that built a network of helpers* equipped to support LGBTIQ+ and non-binary survivors through both community and institutional protection mechanisms.
