Feminists have long engaged with the issue of pornography and it´s still a heated issue today. This is why we will start by discussing the history of feminist debates around pornography as well as the emergence and development of lesbian and feminist pornography. What is feminist porn and where can we find it? Is mainstream pornography bad?
We will explore how pornography helps us talk about sex, desire and fantasy and why this matters, especially for queer women who are often discouraged from talking about those issues openly and without shame. We will discuss the importance of seeing various body types, sexual preferences and kinks being represented in porn – but from us and for us (queer women and lesbians), and not for the voyeuristic pleasure of heterosexual men. We will talk about our experiences with various types of pornography and how and where we consume it. And finally, we will try to answer the burning question: Can feminist pornography help us have better, hotter sex?
In order to get all close and personal, participants are invited and encouraged to submit a short sex story or a sex fantasy/confession (anonymously for the shy, or signed for the exhibitionists) which will be read out loud and enjoyed during the workshop. These can later be used as scripts for potential future pornos: maybe we can even make one during the EL*C?
