From the Margins to the Center: Healthcare for Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Women in Croatia – Research Report
This report by LORI examines the healthcare status, experiences and needs of lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (LBTQ) women in Croatia, combining a desk review of existing research and legislation with a qualitative study of focus groups conducted with LBTQ women in 2024. It documents wellbeing and physical/mental health, general impressions of the healthcare system, experiences of accessing care, openness versus concealment of LBTQ identity with healthcare staff, experiences of discrimination, and encounters with conversion therapy practices — with particular attention to the specific healthcare needs of transgender women. The report closes with concrete guidelines for improving accessible, non-discriminatory and equitable healthcare for LGBTIQ people, covering protection from discrimination, healthcare staff training, and trans- and intersex-specific care needs.
