Suggestions for Accessibility of Lesbian, Queer, and Transfeminist Cultural Events and Political Spaces – Handbook
This handbook by the Luki Massa Association closes out the 2025 “Lesbians+” project, which explored accessibility to cultural production and community life for lesbians facing intersecting forms of exclusion (disability, fatness, racialization). Growing out of the “Space for Lesbians” conference held during the Some Prefer Cake lesbian film festival, it opens with nine political guidelines for lesbian, queer and transfeminist accessibility (e.g. “Nothing about us without us,” “Liberation is collective,” “We want bread and roses, too”), then offers concrete, tested practices organized by event-planning phase — ideation (networking, diverse representation, economic accessibility), organization (accessibility contact person, barrier-free venues, seating, decompression areas, staff training), implementation (accessibility teams, access riders, subtitles, sign language interpretation, audio description), and communication (plain language, accessible websites, advance notice, signage). It focuses primarily on physical, sensory and neurodivergent accessibility, developed in dialogue with sister festivals Gender Bender (Bologna) and Orlando (Bergamo).
