Mari is a queer feminist activist and has been involved in different queer feminist initiaves in Georgia, regionally and internationally around 12 years. Mari holds a master’s degree in European and International Human Rights Law from Leiden University and MA in Gender, Society and Representation from University College London. They are a Chevening scholarship alumnus.
Mari has worked for both Georgian and international human rights organisations in the past. Previously, they worked as a strategic litigation lawyer at Union Sapari, a women’s rights organisation in Georgia, litigating before the European Court of Human Rights and CEDAW committee. Past four years, they have been working for International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR) as a Litigation Coordinator and at Kvinna Till Kvinna Foundation as a Regional Programme Officer, supporting HRDs and women’s movement in the South Caucasus and Central Asia. Apart from that they’ve been part of the board of IGLYO for four years and Chair of the board of Equality Movement. Currently they serve as an advisor to FRIDA Young Feminist Fund. Mari has been actively involved at Georgian Women’s Movement since 2016, organising and leading public demontrations on different women’s rights issues. They are a co-founder of the first queer techno nights series in Georgia “HOROOM nights” and a non-formal non-hierarichal group Lesbian* Resistance. They are passionate about healing practices and performance art.
