A Space for All of Us: The Sapphic Community and the Feminist Movement — A Guide for Collaboration Between Feminist Organizations and Sapphic People – Toolkit
This guide by Asociația Vulgar addresses the often-invisible relationship between sapphic people (a term the guide uses inclusively for lesbian, bisexual and pansexual cis, trans and intersex women and non-binary/trans-masc people assigned female at birth) and feminist organizations in Romania. Based on focus groups with four Bucharest feminist organizations (Centrul Filia, E-Romnja, Asociația ANAIS, Sexul vs Barza) and interviews with LGBTQ+ activists, it documents why sapphic people rarely turn to feminist organizations for support (trust gaps, fear of not being understood, preference for LGBTQ+-specific spaces), the specific difficulties they face (lack of sapphic-friendly medical referrals, double minimization of abuse, fear of losing chosen family/community, distrust of authorities), and intersectional challenges for Roma sapphic people. It closes with concrete recommendations for feminist organizations, a mapping of Bucharest-based services for sapphic people, and practical resources — including Vulgar’s own sapphic-friendly gynecologist referral list, active since February 2025.
