Tanja von Knorring is a woman and transgender woman aged 64, a human rights expert, teacher, and has also several other professions. She became involved in human rights work in 1992. She transitioned for the first time in public in 1984, and finally in late 2017.
Tanja is a multiprofessional expert, participating in several projects about Transgender rights and health, and she is one of the key persons in the renewal of the trans law in Finland, currently Executive Director of the NGO Transfemininiit, Vice-Chair of the Federation of LGBTI organisations in Finland, SETA and Vice-Chair of Rainbow Seniors of Finland. She is also active in the international trans rights scene. She has been Co-Chair of Transgender Europe and Central Asia in 2019-2020, and is the current Auditor. In September 2019 as a member of the Finnish delegation to the European Council High Conference on Rainbow rights, she suggested as a personal suggestion a Transgender Law Road Map for the EU, and the suggestion eventually became a part of the High Conference final document. Later that Road Map was prepared further in the European Parliament. She has been a lecturer in several domestic and international conferences on transgender rights. In 2020 she received the Award as the Swedish LGBTI person of the year from Swedish Rainbow Alliance in Finland. She was also Second runner up in Miss Gay Finland competition of 2019. Tanja has studied at Aalto University (transportation and architecture); the Swedish School of Economics (BBA/BTA in economics, work psychology and sociology), and at Cranfield University in the UK (air transport).
