The International House of Women in Rome, is located in the monumental complex formerly known as “Buon Pastore” (since the 1600s used as a women's recluse), intended in 1983 for -social purposes, with particular regard to women's citizenship.
Among our themes, the one related to self-determination and free choices on reproductive health remains a priority, but political engagement, listening to the new demands of society, has expanded to other areas: the fight against sexism and racism, institutional and popular; welcoming and supporting women in difficulty and/or victims of violence; legality, against mafias and organized crime; environmental justice, in relation to new movements; a new vision of the city and urban organization; international cooperation; attention to and support for women's artistic production, from women directors to writers to painters. And more.
The magnificent setting of the International House is inhabited by more and more high-profile theater, music and performance events, making the International House of Women a driving force behind women's culture and actions.
